Satirical letter was pleasant change of pace

It was a pleasure to read the letter by Mr. Stammel of Stamford in the May 15 Daily Star.

What we often lack in the letters section is a sense of humor. Satire of that level is often missing in present day discourse. One is reminded of H.L. Mencken, and before him, Mark Twain and his contemporary, mid-19th century comic genius Artimus Ward.

One of my friends had what Mencken would have called a howler when he tried to picture a harried checkout person at Walmart with 12 customers waiting to check out 50 different items each. Everyone a different price for each customer, 600 different prices.

Perhaps Mr. Stammel could look into the practices of some of our political lawyers and develop a similar satire to Rabelais’ thesis on Judge Bridlegoose. Anyway, thanks to Mr. Stammel for a howler.
