As a parent, grandparent and social justice advocate concerned about the future sustainability of Otsego County, I intend to cast my vote this Nov. 5 for Teresa Winchester, candidate for election to the District 2 seat on the Otsego County Board of Representatives.
Winchester is a leader and an active participant in the affairs of her community. She is a seasoned administrator with a passion for the future of our district — a champion for progress, preservation and justice. Perhaps even more importantly, Winchester is a woman well-acquainted with the workings of our county government.
During the past four-plus years, Winchester’s opponent, James Powers, as chair of the Otsego County Gas Drilling Advisory Committee, has consistently demonstrated his support for fracking, while carelessly dismissing the concerns expressed by scores of his constituents on the subject.
We need representatives who will fairly and equitably represent the best interests of the people in their districts — not those who have consistently demonstrated concern for their own personal interests. I urge residents of the towns of Morris, Butternuts and Pittsfield to vote for Teresa Winchester for District 2 representative on Nov. 5.
