Two years ago, in her first bid for public office, Teresa Winchester ran a strong race against incumbent Jim Powers to represent southwestern Otsego County on the county board of representatives. Jim won, but this November will see a Winchester-Powers rematch at the polls, and voters will have another opportunity to elect this gritty, public-spirited woman to the county board. We should seize this opportunity!
We first came to know Teresa while she served as executive director of OCCA, the Otsego County Conservation Association. Long a spokesperson for preserving the treasures of our county’s natural environment, this Butternuts resident was one of the early, persistent voices raising questions about fracking. However, she is far from a one-issue candidate, having educated herself widely about county issues and developed principled positions on many matters the board will be facing in its upcoming term. At the same time, she will be a good listener to her constituents and will strive to represent their best interests.
When you go to the polls on Nov. 5, say YES to Teresa!
