Poetry, dance to be focus at Huntington

Don’t miss the next Friends of the Library program at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 7. You’re sure to enjoy Rachel Stevenson’s program called “I Learned to Dance with Renoir.” Rachel has been writing since she was 6 years old and continues to write to this day. Although she’s now trying her hand at fiction and nonfiction, poetry has always been a favorite of hers. This will be a very interactive program with plenty of time to try your hand at “dancing with Renoir.”

Poetry in Motion will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11. Registration is required for this fun movement workshop for 3- and 4-year-olds. Participants will use poetry, scarves, a parachute and music to inspire movement explorations based on words. Instructor Bhala Jones has an impressive history of dance instruction from working with the New York City Ballet and summer stock to managing her own dance company. Call the library at 432-1980 or stop by to register.

If you stop by the library this month, you’ll see that our Reference Section is changing. Print reference books are not the hallmark of a library reference program as they have been in the past. Far fewer patrons visit the library to search through a reference collection. In addition, reference books are the most expensive volumes that a library will purchase. Since our library makes adjustments to policies and services based on the needs of the community, we’ve decided to reduce our reference collection but expand our circulating nonfiction collection. That means that many of our classic reference books will now be available to check out with your library card. The books that will remain in our reference collection will be shelved on the second floor hallway. There are plenty of tables and chairs upstairs for your use.
