Genealogy, ebook classes to be offered at Huntington

will offer a series of

genealogy programs during March.

The sessions are listed below and you can sign up for as many programs as you like.

Registration is required for all programs and may be done in person or by calling 432-1980.

All workshops are free. Computers will be available, courtesy of the Four County Library System traveling classroom.

Internet Resources

for the Genealogist

Online sites such as Familysearch.org, USGenWeb, Castle Garden, Find a Grave, email lists, and other sites will be covered in this program.

Both beginners and experienced users are welcome.

The session will be from 10 to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13.

Genealogy Research Time

For those who are compiling their family genealogies, take advantage of our Genealogy Research Time scheduled from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 15.

Computers will be available for genealogists to use Ancestry.com and other genealogy websites in the New York State Room.

Sarah Livingston will be available to offer assistance.

Internet Genealogy

New York State

Learn about various Internet resources with the focus on conducting New York state research.

You’ll learn about Familysearch.org, USGenWeb, Castle Garden, Fultonhistory, and other relevant New York state sites. This workshop is scheduled for 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19.

Ancestry.com Library Edition

At this workshop learn about the resources available on Ancestry.com library edition.

Databases of Ancestry along with searching tips and how-to’s will be covered.

Whether you’ve used this site before, or are new to it, this class will help you. Sarah will lead you through the site with research time included.

Scheduled for two different times from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 14, or 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 20.

Individual Genealogy Sessions

Sarah Livingston will offer one-on-one sessions for family researchers. Using book and Internet resources, Sarah will work with you to help with your genealogical research. She will be available for these sessions March 13 to March 21. Call or stop at the library to sign up for these sessions before March 13.

EBOOK CLASSES

Learn how to download library books from our free Download Zone using your ebook reader or audio device during these classes. Choose from among these classes and sign up for a session in person or by calling the library at 432-1980.

If you have any questions about which class is right for you, just ask.

Kindles: 4 p.m. March 13 or 10:30 a.m. March 21. Your device needs to be registered with Amazon, and you’ll check out a library book. Computer is optional.

Non-Kindle Device: 11 a.m. March 14 or 4 p.m. March 20. This will include Nooks, Sony eReaders, mobile devices, etc. If you are using a Nook or other eReader device that does not use apps, you will need to bring your own laptop to fully participate.

You may still cone to learn if you are unable to bring your own laptop. Most mobile devices are compatible with the app.

Audiobooks: 1 p.m. March 15. This class includes mp3 players, computers, iPods, etc. Software is needed to listen to audiobooks on most players and computers.

Unless you have an App compatible device, you will need to bring your own laptop to fully participate.

You may still come to learn if you are unable to bring your own laptop.

Library Hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.
