Library Corner: Statistics of summer reading

Summer was very busy with all the children’s programs and contests at Huntington and we thought you would enjoy seeing some of the statistics. We held 133 programs for children of all ages with a total of 2,261 attending. Our summer reading book club for pre-readers, readers and teens had 155 participants and they read a 4,580 books. That’s a lot of reading!

It was a fun summer and the children really made our days. They entertained us with their stories, and told us if they loved or hated books, and entered our many contests. We loved it. It’s hard to believe that the summer has ended already.

Children can still enjoy reading this fall and here are some new book choices:

How many times have you heard the phrase, “I’m bored” in your household. Wait until you see the little girl who announces she’s bored in Michael Black’s

“I’m Bored.”

She is bored, bored, bored and when she tells a potato that, the action really starts, because the potato is even more bored than our main character. You’ll never make it through this book without laughing aloud — great fun for all.

Frog is in the forest when he falls into a deep hole. So does Mouse, then Loris, followed by Bear and several other animals. They need help getting out, but when Tiger is the next to appear, they know he’s looking for a meal even though he says he’ll “help” them out. What will the animals do? Find out in

“Oh, No!

” by Candace Fleming.

“Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs”

by Mo Willems is not your run of the mill Goldilocks story, especially when Mo Willems tells it. Goldilocks visits the home of three dinosaurs who are not setting a trap for a young girl. There are three bowls of chocolate pudding that they did not put out to trap a little girl. When Goldilocks comes along, they dinosaurs were not eagerly anticipating the bounty, or were they?
