Therapy dog trainers to discuss process

Boyce and Marjorie Rogers will present a program on how to train dogs to become therapy dogs. The couple has two golden retrievers, both trained therapy dogs. They will discuss the process of training the dogs, preparing them for their therapy test with Therapy Dogs International, and also talk about how their own dogs are currently serving as therapy dogs. A DVD on the training process will also be shown. The program will be held Monday, April 15, at 6:45.

Marjorie is the author of “Terrific Tobey!: Tobey Becomes a Therapy Dog” and copies of her book will be for sale. The library also has a copy available for checkout. This program is sponsored by the Friends of Huntington Memorial Library and is free to the public.

Dog Training

The library has many dog books, both fiction and nonfiction. A select few from our collection on various topics include these:

“Oh My Dog” by Beth Stern contains tips on being a dog owner starting with before you get the dog through its older years. You’ll learn which breed is best for you, how to train, reading dog food labels, what to do when your dog is sick and specifics on grooming.

Is there a puppy in your future? Take a look at Carlo DeVito’s “The Everything New Puppy Book.” You’ll learn what to look for in choosing your puppy and how to raise and train the dog. Information on how to puppy-proof your house, housebreaking, helping children and the puppy adjust, feeding and behavior problems are among the categories covered.

Dr. Dodman presents seven steps for the health and happiness of your dog in “The Well-Adjusted Dog.” He talks about how much exercise your dog needs, how diet affects behavior, communicating effectively and letting your dog know you are in charge, providing the best environment and more.
