Learn about genealogy, energy healing in April

Join Librarian Sarah Livingston for her genealogy workshops during the month of April. The sessions are listed below, and you can sign up for as many programs as you like. Registration is required for all programs and may be done in person or by calling 432-1980. Workshop fees are payable at the time of the workshop.

Ancestry.com Library Edition

At this workshop learn about the resources available on Ancestry.com library edition. Whether this site is new to you, or you need help navigating your way through it, this workshop will help you. Sarah will include searching tips and how-to's. The free workshop is scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, or 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19.

Immigration and Naturalization Records

Learn where to find immigration and naturalization records during this workshop, which will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19. Online and print resources will be featured. There is a fee of $5 for this workshop.

Internet Resources for the Genealogist

This workshop will be an introduction to available resources such as Mormon records, USGenWeb, Ellis Island, Castle Garden and email lists. There is a $5 materials fee. Choose either 10:30 a,.m. to noon Monday, April 16, or 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 17.

1940 Census

Learn how to navigate the 1940 Census and search for your ancestors. You'll also have research time to work with the 1940 Census. This census just became available Monday. There is no name index yet, so Sarah will share tips on the types of materials you'll need to gather to do your research and the types of information that is available. Dates are 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 16, or 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 20. This workshop is free.

One-on-One Genealogy

Sign up for individual genealogy workshop sessions April 16 to 20 at the library. Using book and Internet resources, Sarah will work with you individually to help you with your genealogical research. There is no charge for individual sessions, but registration is required. The registration deadline is April 13.

Hypnosis and Energy Work Program

The Friends of Huntington Memorial Library will hold a program on Monday, March 19, at 7 p.m. Thomas Warner, the featured speaker, will discuss modern hypnosis practices, which have been found to improve health, vitality and wellness. By allowing the conscious mind to relax, the body is allowed to heal itself more efficiently. Comparisons will be made between hypnosis and meditative practices.

Warner is certified in yoga,reiki, sound healing and hypnosis. He became a reiki practitioner after leaving the corporate world, and completely changing his life. His studies led him to a life that was more authentic, and one that helped him discover his life's purpose. After completing his certifications, he started a wellness practice. He now teaches yoga classes throughout upstate New York.

This program is free and open to the public.

Library Hours: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.
