Join us from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday as we gather with other youth organizations to celebrate summer and share our resources at the Oneonta World of Learning Ice Cream Social at the Boys and Girls Club in Oneonta. The Huntington Memorial Library will have a booth where you can make a simple rocket and send it flying to the moon and stars. There will be free ice cream provided by Oneonta World of Learning sponsors, and you’re sure to have fun and learn about all of the youth programs in the area.
BIG LIBRARY READ
Overdrive, the library platform for downloading ebooks and audiobooks is launching the Big Library Read this week. It will be held Tuesday through June 18. As many of you know, the library’s digital collection that is available through our Download Zone operates just like our print collection. Each title can only be checked out by one patron at a time. For the duration of the Big Library Read, all of our patrons will be able to read “A Pedigree to Die For” by Laurien Berenson at the same time. This is a great opportunity for book clubs or informal groups of friends to read a book with no restrictions. There will be no hold queues and no extra cost to the library. If you haven’t tried to download an ebook, give it a try. As always, call the library if you need help.
If you use the Download Zone regularly, you’ll notice a new feature. Now when you’re browsing for ebooks or audiobooks there’s an option to recommend a book purchase for the digital collection.
When you’re on the website, fourcounty.lib.overdrive.com, you’ll see a new button. Click on “Additional Titles to Recommend” and you’ll be directed to a list of other titles that are available through Overdrive but have not been purchased by the library. You can refine the list based on language, format, subject and even lexile measure. Simply click on the icon with the plus sign and send the recommendation to the library. Your recommendations will be seen by the Electronic Resources Advisory Committee as it chooses titles to purchase. Give it a try. We love to get recommendations from our community.
