Programs on antiques, genealogy at library

Kevin Herrick, owner of Lettis Auction Services, will present a talk on antiques and collectibles at Huntington Memorial Library at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19.

Audience members are invited to bring one antique to the program.

Herrick will discuss each antique and give its current value. This program is sponsored by The Friends of Huntington Memorial Library. This program is free and open to the public.

Genealogy Workshops

Librarian Sarah Livingston will be conducting a series of genealogy workshops as listed below during September. Registration is required for all workshops and begins two weeks before the date of the workshop. You may call us at 432-1980 or register in person.

Immigration and Naturalization Records

Learn where to find immigration and naturalization records during this workshop, which will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, or 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26. Both online and print resources will be featured. There is a fee of $5, payable at the time of the workshop.

Internet Resources for the Genealogist

This workshop will be an introduction to available resources such as Mormon records, USGenWeb, Ellis Island, Castle Garden, email lists, and Library Edition. There is a $5 materials fee, payable at the time of the workshop. Scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 19, or 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Understanding Census Records

The focus will be on all things census in this session. Learn about the types of census records, how they are organized, how to use them, and where to find them. It will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 There is a $5 materials fee, payable at the time of the workshop.

One-on-One Genealogy

Sign up for individual genealogy workshop sessions Sept. 19 to 23 at the library. Using book and Internet resources, Sarah Livingston will work with you individually to help you with your genealogical research. This is a free program and the deadline to register is Sept. 16.

Each participant will be able to use a computer compliments of the Four County Library System Traveling Classroom.

Hours for the New York State Room are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and other times by appointment.
