Recently, the Huntington Memorial Library conducted a survey to better understand how our community uses and benefits from free access to computers and the Internet at the library. The library staff would like to thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback.
Please donate a computer to your library by sending the funds to us! Our community depends on the Huntington Memorial Library’s ability to sustain the quality of technology services that provide opportunities for all people. Our current computers are outdated, slow and use an operating system that is no longer supported and conflicts with modern browsers. We need to replace these computers and purchase more public computers in our library. We need to double our computer work stations and provide current software at a cost of about $8,000. Let’s make sure our library gets the support it needs to make this happen.
The library offers four public computers, three online catalog computers, wireless internet and assistance for all members of the community. Of the survey respondents who reported visiting the library in the past year, 55 percent used a public access computer or the library’s wireless network during their visits, and 52 percent of public access technology users also received help from a librarian when using the computers or Internet at the library.
Those who received help were asked about the helpfulness of the library staff; 91.5 percent found them very helpful while only 7 percent found them somewhat helpful. Of the technology users, 88 percent have access to the Internet at home, school or work but still choose to use the library’s technology.
This shows that the library offers critical resources and services even as people increasingly have their own Internet connections and devices.

The library has launched a new website that has a clean and simple design. Try it out and give us your feedback. The site is easy to navigate and has retained the important content from the previous design. You can directly log into your library account and there’s a link to the Four County Library System on every page. For your convenience there is an application for a library card and a Room Reservation form that you can print and bring to the library. The home page will be used to post new information and you can “follow” it so new posts will go directly to your email. The best part of the new design is that the library calendar is available to keep you up-to-date on programs and events.
Library Hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.
