The Friends of Huntington Memorial Library are conducting an annual membership drive. Join or renew your membership for 2012 soon. Membership applications are online at www.hmloneonta.org or by filling out an application available at the library. If you join or renew your membership by Nov. 18, you will be entered in a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to Green Toad Bookstore.
Your membership helps support the library in a number of ways. The Friends donate funds to the library to purchase books on CD, large-print books and equipment, to name just a few. They also support the summer reading children's programs and programs for adults throughout the year. It's the best investment you'll ever make.
The annual meeting of the Friends is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 17. Election of officers for 2012 will be conducted along with announcements on activities of the Friends.
You'll want to stay for the author program, which is described next.
'Murder on Route 66' Program
Immediately following the annual Friends meeting on Oct. 17, Glenn Nilson will give a talk on his latest book, "Murder on Route 66."
Motorcycle riding and other outdoor activities have long been Glenn's passion, along with writing and cooking. He grew up on a farm in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California, hiking, hunting, fishing, even panning for gold. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at theUniversity of California, Berkeley, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Following that, he achieved his doctorate in sociology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and taught at a branch of the State University in Connecticut.
Upon retirement, the West drew him to New Mexico, the setting for "Murder on Route 66."
Glenn divides his time between living in rural Florida and Morris, writing and refurbishing an 1870s era cottage on the Butternut creek.
