Genealogy resources to be topic of classes

This fall, New York State Room librarian Sarah Livingston will lead a series of classes on several genealogy databases. These are computer-based classes, and the library will provide laptops for your use. Registration is required, so please call 432-1980 or stop by the library to sign up.

Family Search: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 26; 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 30; or 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 2. Learn about the resources available through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Huntington Library is fortunate to be able to receive these documents as a Family History Center. You will learn about its free online resources as well as the Family Search microfilm catalog.

Ancestry.com Library Edition: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 27; 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 1; or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3. This workshop will focus on the popular Ancestry Database. You’ll learn how to navigate the database and how to refine your searches to find information about your heritage.

Fultonhistory.com: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 1; or 10 to 11 a.m. Oct. 2. Learn how to search more than 23,580,000 New York state historical newspaper pages. This is your all-in-one-stop for searching newspapers online.

HISTORY OF HOROLOGY

The Friends of the Library will host a program, “A History of Horology at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 23. Walter Nagel, retired educator, started collecting clocks in 1993 as an outgrowth of his interest in antiques and his fascination with measuring devices as a scientist. Mr. Nagel’s program will focus on the development of the clock as early time measuring devices with an emphasis on American clocks. Clock complexity and beauty will be evident from the examples shown. Plan on experiencing an informative program on a fascinating topic.

Library Hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.
