Wanted: On-the-go teens

The Daily Star

---- — Some things haven’t changed since I was a teen two decades ago.

Teens still get together, hang out at each others’ houses, go shopping, join clubs and participate in sports.

But I’m sure some things are different.

To me, there seems to be more of an emphasis on volunteering, helping others and having a full schedule, and, of course, technology has changed everything.

That’s why I’m looking for you, teens. Our readers and I want to know what you do when you are “On the Go.”

Do your friends turn to you when the question of “What are we going to do this weekend?” comes up? Do you know what’s going on before everyone else? Are you someone who is always looking for something new to do?

Then you may be just who we need to let us know.

The Daily Star is seeking a columnist for its monthly “On the Go” Teen Talk feature.

If you like to write, are in eighth through 11th grade and would like to write a column every four weeks, submit a sample column of 600 to 800 words.

The column should address activities of interest of teens or feature some wonderful things teens are doing around the area.

Along with the column, you should include your name, age, hometown, grade, school and a phone number where we can reach you.

Samples can be sent by email to, by fax to 432-5707, or by mail, attention to Denielle Ziemba, to The Daily Star, P.O. Box 250, Oneonta, NY 13820.

The sample column may be used as the debut column.

If you have any questions, give me a call at (800) 721-1000, ext. 259.

If you are chosen to be the columnist, you’ll get paid. It’s not millions, but it’ll be enough to buy you and a couple of friends lunch at a fast-food joint.

And, it looks great on a college application.

So, teens, get writing.

I’ll need the sample column by Sept. 21. The first column will run Oct. 6.

Denielle Ziemba is Lifestyle editor of The Daily Star.
