Teenhood Today: Change can be scary, wonderful

Change can be a scary thing. Not knowing where you’ll be, what you’ll be doing, or what delicious restaurants will be nearby is a very scary thing.

That’s kind of what my life has been like for the past couple of months.

I know I am graduating early and either going to college or overseas next year, but I don’t know which of those options I am going to choose. And within each of those choices are a bazillion little choices that are eagerly jumping up and down reminding me that I need to make a decision.

But beyond just my personal decisions, there are other changes that have snaked their way into my life.

One huge change that is taking place in my life is that of my dad’s career switch.

He’s going from being a pastor at a small church to a chaplain in the Air Force. This means a move for the entire family. We’re all excited and are eagerly looking forward to this adventure, but it’s still a little scary.

We’re going through all of our stuff and making piles out of it. A pile for stuff to take with us, a pile to garage sale, and a pile to throw away. Luckily, I’ve already done all of this for my own possessions, as I knew I would be leaving for college or overseas.

The only struggle for me is finding room on my bookcase for all of the new books I’m getting as my mother goes through her shelves.

I truly love the days where my parents go through their bookshelves. One day I got nine new books!

Isn’t that a little counter-productive, though, to simply relocate items instead of actually reducing the items in the house? If that’s what you’re thinking you are absolutely correct. I just console myself with the fact that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. And honestly, are there really ever too many books? I don’t think so.
