The Daily Star
---- — Today, I’d like to offer my review of the latest music I bought ... but many of you probably weren’t alive when I bought it.
I’m a bit better with movies — if you like animated films (my 4- and 9-year-olds do).
OK, how about apps and games? I’m stuck on Level 245 on Candy Crush (Level 213 was a bear).
I could sit here and give you my opinions of books (”The Stand,” although long at 1,500-plus pages, is awesome), television shows (”Under the Dome” is OK) and fan sites (I’ve check out a few Stephen King sites, and some are better than others) — yes, I am a huge fan of the King of Horror — but who wants to hear my views?
That’s not what this column is about. It needs someone much younger than me to tell you what’s hot, fresh, cool, neat ... wait, I’m dating myself again, aren’t I?
We need you.
We are looking for a teen writer for our “Weekend Reviews” column.
If you enjoy writing; are in ninth through 12th grades; and live in Otsego, Delaware, Chenango or Schoharie counties; we want to hear from you.
All you need to do is submit a sample column of 600 to 800 words.
The column can be on books, movies, music, websites, webcomics, a local production — whatever you feel like casting a critical eye upon.
If you are chosen to write for us, your sample column may run as your first column.
The benefits of being our next teen reviewer go beyond just seeing your name and work in print (and online) each month — you will get paid.
It’s not much, but every bit helps fill the tank.
Along with the column, include your name, age, hometown, grade, school and a phone number where we can reach you.
Samples can be sent by email to email@example.com or by mail, attention to Denielle Ziemba, to The Daily Star, P.O. Box 250, Oneonta, NY 13820.
If you have any questions, give me a call at (800) 721-1000, ext. 259.
So, teens, get writing. I’ll need your samples by Thursday, Sept. 13.
Denielle Ziemba is Associate Managing Editor/Lifestyles of The Daily Star.
