A fire in Delhi on Friday night destroyed a taxidermy shop.

The blaze at Perkin's Taxidermy on Arbor Hill Road was reported at about 11:20 p.m. and the 911 call was believed to have come from a motorist on state Route 10, said Delhi Fire Chief Dan Brandenburg Sr.

"There was nobody there," Brandenburg said.

The one-story building housing the shop was a "total loss," Brandenburg said.

"The fire had a good head start," he added.

Sixty to 65 firefighters from several area departments responded to the scene to fight the blaze

With the shop fully involved, firefighters mounted an exterior attack, Brandenburg said.

No injuries were reported.

The shop is owned by Dave Shaw of Delhi, Brandenburg said. He said he did not know if Shaw had insurance.

Calls to Shaw's home resulted in busy signals Sunday night.

The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation, Brandenburg said.

Andes, Bloomville, Bovina, Meridale, East Meredith, Walton, Franklin and Delhi fire departments were called to either fight the fire at the scene or standby.
