February 23, 2008 04:00 am A father and son from Afton were arrested in connection with a large number of burglaries in the Afton area of Chenango County, law enforcement authorities said Friday. According to a media release from state police at Sidney, the men were arrested after two search warrants were executed at an unnamed Afton location, resulting in a large amount of stolen property being recovered. Troopers said Matthew M. Snyder, 21, was charged with multiple counts of second-degree burglary and third-degree burglary. He was sent to Chenango County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Curtis F. Snyder Jr., 52, his father, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, troopers said, and he was sent to Chenango jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. The investigation, conducted by troopers, Chenango County sheriff's deputies, the Afton Police Department and Canadian Pacific railroad has been ongoing during the past few years, the release said, and it continues. Afton area residents who have been the victim of a burglary and have not recovered their possessions are asked to call the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 561-7400. Calls will be kept confidential, troopers said, and others with information also are asked to call. ''
