Flood watches for counties in effect until Wednesday

DELHI _ The National Weather Service has issued flood watches and advisories for Delaware County, but a spokeswoman at the county Emergency Services Department reported few flooded roads Monday.

The spokeswoman said the only roads experiencing flooding were Pine Lake Road in Davenport and county Route 18 in Delhi near Fitches Bridge.

Water was also covering the road on Basin Clove Road near the Hamden Covered Bridge, and low-lying fields along the West Branch of the Delaware River were flooding.

Drivers are warned not to drive over flooded roads or bridges.

During the afternoon Monday, the weather service reported that river levels for the Susquehanna at Bainbridge, the Chenango at Sherburne and the West Branch of the Delaware at Walton had exceeded flood stage, with minor flooding forecasted. Those three areas were under a flood warning, as were places in Delaware County near small streams.

The West Branch of the Delaware River by Delhi, however, was not expected to reach flood stage.

A flood watch _ a less-severe alert _ remains in place for Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties through Wednesday night, as more precipitation is possible.
