ONEONTA _ The eighth annual Faculty Research Show at the State University College at Oneonta will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. The show will highlight research projects conducted by SUCO faculty from 29 academic departments and programs with collaborators from 17 institutions.
Faculty will present 62 programs representing the work of 140 contributing authors from SUCO and affiliated universities, according to a news release. The show will be held in the Morris Conference Center.
Before the show, seven alumni of SUCO science programs will participate in a panel discussion from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Little Theater in Alumni Hall to describe how academic experiences have impacted their professional lives. Both events are open to the public.
The Faculty Research Show will feature multi-disciplinary presentations from the natural and applied sciences to the humanities and arts to social sciences, including the following:
ä Sven Anderson, art department, "Digital Painting."
ä Leanne Avery, elementary education and reading, and Julia Thom-Levy, Cornell University, "Valuing Local Knowledge in Rural Science Education."
ä Jacqueline Bennett, chemistry and biochemistry, "Green Organic Chemistry: Working Toward Environmental Friendliness."
ä Leslie Hasbargen, Earth sciences, "Flood Recurrence in Delaware and Otsego Counties, New York."
ä Cuiting Li, human ecology, and Ho Hon Leung, sociology, "The Perception of Burden to Children and Nursing Homes: Views from the Elderly in Rural Areas."
ä Douglas Shrader, philosophy, "Seven Characteristics of Mystical Experiences."
The science alumni panel will include four faculty from SUCO: Arthur Palmer, Earth sciences; William Pietraface, biology; Willard Harman, Biological Field Station; and William Vining, chemistry and biochemistry.
