GRAND GORGE _ The state Department of Transportation will have a informational meeting Thursday about proposed improvements to the intersection of state Routes 23 and 30 in the hamlet.

The meeting will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Grand Gorge Civic Center, 60933 state Route 30, Grand Gorge.hamlet.

The meeting will be an open-house format, with DOT representatives available in an informal setting.hamlet.

The public is encouraged to give opinions, comments and project alternative preferences to staff either orally or in writing, officials said. The proposed work will make changes to the intersection layout to improve the safety for pedestrians crossing the street. DOT staff has developed two alternates to reduce the distance between opposite curbs in the intersection. The first alternate makes use of as much of the existing sidewalk network as possible and has the smallest impact on the existing intersection, officials said.hamlet.

The second alternate is more extensive and replaces the sidewalks and curbs throughout the intersection. This alternate also reconfigures some of the parking near the center of the village to make it safer for motorists.hamlet.

Both alternates would reconstruct curbs and sidewalks in the intersection, with paving to be done later in the season as part of the DOT’s regular pavement maintenance.hamlet.

Members of the community who cannot attend this meeting and have questions, comments or would like to discuss the project may call Thomas Miller at 721-8520 or e-mail him at tmiller@dot.state.ny.us.hamlet.
