ONEONTA _ Workers painted tables, adjusted lights and made other preparations Tuesday inside and outside space at 99 Main St., where Asian-Mex Restaurant is to open Friday.

The premises later will have a bar, the Sake Club, which will offer band performances, dance space, projection of sports games and an area with games such as pinball and darts, said business manager Looi, who goes by his first name.

The bar and restaurant is opening at the site of the former Silver Bullet. Inside, there is a restaurant area with dining booths, two bars, a kitchen and a dance floor. The menu will offer Chinese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Malaysian and Mexican food. He said restaurant hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, until 11 p.m. on the weekend, and until 9 p.m. Sunday.

There are two other Chinese restaurants on Main Street downtown. Looi also manages Tokyo Tavern, a Japanese restaurant on Main Street.

Looi said the goal is to open a club in Oneonta where residents and college students older than 21 can have fun. The dance floor is about 1,000 square feet, including a stage for a band and a platform for pole dancing. The wall will be painted with a subway theme mural.

``It’s going to be a hot spot,’’ Looi said. ``There are many possibilities to have fun.’’

The Sake Club will sell memberships for $35, which will include discounts to club events and free admission, Looi said. The club will have a cover charge of $3, he said, and the club awaits a liquor license from the state, which may arrive in a couple of weeks.

Looi said he didn’t know how many employees would be hired for the restaurant and bar.

The kitchen and restrooms have been remodeled. Looi said telephone numbers for the restaurant and bar are 431-1198 and 431-1888.
