Cooperstown Concert Series gets $10K grant

COOPERSTOWN _ State Sen. James Seward, R-Milford, was in Cooperstown on Tuesday morning to announce that the Cooperstown Concert Series has received a $10,000 state grant.

The money, which was allotted last year by the state Legislature, is being used to help offset artists’ fees, as the Cooperstown Concert Series has staged several shows this winter.

``The grant has been very helpful this season,’’ said Jeff Katz, Cooperstown Concert Series co-director and also a Cooperstown village trustee.

``The funding helps a vital local arts program and addresses a community need,’’ Seward said. ``It’s wonderful to have programs like these, where people can get together and enjoy music, especially in the winter.’’

Katz said the organization’s last program of the season features blues guitarist Chris Smither, who will perform at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Cooperstown Concert Series is concluding its 38th year and has an annual budget of about $30,000.
