Ex-DVH worker arraigned in thefts

By Patricia Breakey
Delhi News Bureau

DELHI _ A former employee of Delaware Valley Hospital was arraigned on 22 charges in Delaware County Court last Monday.

Joseph J. Jedlowski, 25, of Binghamton, pleaded innocent to nine counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, nine counts of first-degree falsifying business records, two counts of third-degree grand larceny and one count each of fourth-degree grand larceny and petit larceny.

Delaware County District Attorney Richard Northrup said that while Jedlowski was employed by the Walton hospital, he is alleged to have falsified records to issue checks to doctors to cover expenses allegedly incurred while they attended out-of-state medical conventions and classes.

Northrup said Jedlowski then allegedly took the checks, which had forged signatures, to the bank, where he cashed them. Northrup said Jedlowski is not charged with forging the checks but that he allegedly knew the signatures were forged.

Northrup said the checks were written and cashed between the end of August and mid-November, and they totaled in excess of $22,000.

After Jedlowski's employment ended for unrelated reasons, people found problems with the accounts and the hospital conducted an internal audit, Northrup said last Monday.

According to court records, Jedlowski also allegedly took a laptop computer and an air conditioner from the hospital.

Delaware County Judge Carl Becker said Jedlowski is free on $10,000 bond. His trial is scheduled for the July 14 trial term.

In another case, a Delhi couple who were co-defendants in an alleged marijuana possession case agreed to a plea arrangement in which the husband pleaded guilty to one charge and the charges against his wife will be dismissed.

Frank M. Adamo, 42, and his wife, Elke M. Adamo, 41, were charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, growing the plant known as cannabis without a license, endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

a .22 caliber Ruger.

Frank Adamo pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and will be sentenced to five years of probation, with no forfeitures of personal property and no suspension of his driver's license if he can prove that he needs his license to remain employed.

The charges against the Adamos stem from an incident on Sept. 10 in Meredith.

ä Two men pleaded guilty to charges related to the alleged sale of cocaine at Toddie's Restaurant and Tavern in Sidney.

Cheyenne Johnson, 29, of Sidney Center, and Toby L. Jones, 34, of Sidney, each pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Johnson, who is free on $20,000 bail, will be sentenced April 28 to one year in jail.

Jones, who is a second drug felony offender, was sentenced to 11/2 years in prison.

ä A Roxbury man pleaded guilty to a charge related to the theft of a $1,150 chainsaw from Diversified Ag in Grand Gorge in late June.

Robert J. Giordano, 19, was sentenced to a year in jail and was ordered to make restitution.

ä An Ozone Park man was arraigned and pleaded innocent to charges related to the sale of controlled substances in Deposit in February.

Phillip J. Letizia, 48, is charged with fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly selling dihydrocodeinone on Feb. 5 and fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance for allegedly selling dextropropoxphene on Feb. 21.

Becker said Letizia has 52 prior arrests and four prior felony convictions.

Letizia was sent to jail without bail, and his trial was scheduled for the Oct. 6 trial term.
