Main St. closed this morning
ONEONTA _ Main Street in downtown Oneonta was scheduled for closure this morning between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.
The closure is to allow the removal of asphalt cores that will be studied to determine why the surface of the street that was paved three years ago is deteriorating.
The stretch of Main Street that will be closed is between Chestnut Street and Grand Street.
The closure and the work is dependent on the weather, city officials said, and the street will reopen once the work is completed.
'Wick to hold global webcast
ONEONTA _ Hartwick College will screen a public webcast of Pangea Day, a global event aimed at bringing the world together through film, from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Locations in Cairo, Kigali, Rwanda, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, India, and Rio de Janeiro will be linked for a live program of films, live music and speakers, organizers said.
The event will be broadcast in seven languages to millions of people through the Internet, television and mobile phones.
The public is invited to the free screening, which will be held in Eaton Lounge in Bresee Hall on the Hartwick College campus.
The 24 short films to be featured have been selected from an international competition that generated more than 2,500 submissions from more than 100 countries. The films were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform and allow people to see the world through another person's eyes, organizers said.
The program will also include a number of speakers and musical performers, including Queen Noor of Jordan, CNN's Christiane Amanpour, musician/activist Bob Geldof and Iranian rock phenom Hypernova.
