Staff Report
May 14, 2009 04:00 am A Cobleskill man seriously injured last week while leaning out the window of a car has died while hospitalized in Cooperstown. Ryan Daly, 23, was a passenger in a 1999 Dodge Stratus driven by Calvin Dancler, 22, of Cobleskill, that struck a pole May 3 on Elm Street. Daly hit the pole as he leaned out the window to throw water balloons, police said. Daly was taken via Med-Flight to Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown for treatment of critical injuries. He died Tuesday, hospital officials confirmed. Daly was throwing water balloons at pedestrians on the sidewalk when the accident occurred, said Sgt. Rich Bialkowski of Cobleskill police. Mike Seymour, a former Cobleskill native residing in Worcester, said his son, Zach, was one of Daly's best friends. "He was the kind of kid who would give the shirt off his back and yet he came from a poor family life," Seymour said, adding that, "he was always polite and courteous to myself and my wife and will be missed by many people." Dancler was issued a traffic ticket for reckless driving and was to appear Tuesday in Cobleskill Village Court. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Schoharie County District Attorney's Office, police said.
