Garden club to have sale

The Oneonta Garden Club will host its annual May plant and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The sale will be held at the Swart Wilcox House on Wilcox Street off River Street in Oneonta, across from Riverside Elementary School.

The garden club will offer perennials and annuals at reduced prices, as well as garden-related items and a bake sale with home-baked items. The sale is open to the public.

Pupil, teacher plan recital

The First United Methodist Church of Oneonta will host a recital by organist John Jurgensen and student Gavin Osterhoudt, featuring solo works and organ duets, at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Jurgensen is the director of music ministries at First United Methodist Church, and sub-dean of the Oneonta chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Osterhoudt is a senior at Oneonta High School and vice president of the Honor Society. He began his musical studies in piano at age 10 with Raymond Paradis, past dean, and has been studying organ with Jurgensen for the past four years. Osterhoudt serves as organist at the Otego Presbyterian Church and has been the organist for the Annual Christmas Carol at the Oneonta Methodist Church for the past two years. In the fall, he was assistant organist for the Catskill Choral Society.

Osterhoudt plans to attend Binghamton University in the Scholar's Program majoring in physics and will continue his organ studies with Jonathan Biggers.

The annual AGO banquet will follow at the Neptune Diner, where Osterhoudt will be the first recipient of the Larry P. Catlin Memorial Organ Scholarship.

This recital is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Oneonta Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. For more information, call 547-9300.
