Staff Report
June 15, 2009 04:00 am The Otsego County Chamber will present its first State of the County breakfast in Oneonta on Tuesday. The event, sponsored by New York Central Mutual Insurance of Edmeston, will be at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta. The breakfast will start with a buffet at 7:30 a.m., and James Powers, chairman of the Otsego County Board of Representatives, will speak at 8 a.m. Powers will speak about major issues facing the county, according to a media release from the chamber, and a question-and-answer session will be held. When Powers isn't presiding over the board, he tends an 80-Holstein herd at his town of Butternuts farm and raises bees. Possible topics of discussion Tuesday, the release said, are broadband telecommunications/EMS communications, state-mandated services, property-tax relief, shared and/or consolidation of services among the state, county and municipalities and options for solid-waste management. The event costs $20 for chamber members or $30 for nonmembers. For reservations, call Pam Ferguson at 432-4500 or send e-mail to pam@otsegocountychamber.com.
