ONEONTA _ A 19-year-old Oneonta man was arrested early Thursday morning in connection with a stabbing on Dietz Street.

Police responded to a 911 call at 4:15 a.m. from a 21-year-old Ballston Lake man who reported he was being threatened, Lt. Dennis Nayor of the Oneonta Police Department said.

A fight ensued, and the 21-year-old suffered a stab wound to the back, Nayor said.

Ryan Hunter was charged a short time later with second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

The wounded man was taken to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition on Thursday.

The alleged victim had been walking along Dietz Street with a female friend when they were approached by Hunter and another man, Nayor said.

Nayor said police immediately responded. With the help of the victim, they were able to identify Hunter, who was in the area. He fled from police but was taken into custody with the help of pepper spray, Nayor added.

Police have identified the man who was with Hunter and are seeking him for questioning.

"The case is still under investigation," Nayor said.

The wounded man suffered a stab wound caused by a sharp-edged object, Nayor said.

No weapon has been recovered, he said.

The man's injury was described as not life-threatening.

Hunter was being held Thursday pending arraignment in Oneonta City Court.
