A 22-year-old New York City man and a 57-year-old Laurens woman were arrested on felony cocaine possession charges Monday.
Susan A. Greene was stopped at the intersection of state Route 205 and county Route 11A in the town of Laurens on Monday for vehicle and traffic violations, according to a media release from Otsego County sheriff's deputies.
Greene and her passenger, Kawshawn A. Simon of Brooklyn, were found to be in possession of 7 grams of crack cocaine packaged for sale, deputies said.
Simon was also found to have $1,015 in U.S. currency.
Simon and Greene were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, arraigned in Laurens Town Court and each jailed on $50,000 bail.
"We really don't know what the relationship is between Simon and Greene," Otsego County Sheriff Richard J. Devlin Jr. said Thursday.
A search warrant on Greene's Balantic Hill Road home was executed Monday night by sheriff's deputies and federal Drug Enforcement Agency agents.
Deputies said they recovered 9 grams of crack packaged for sale, two electronic scales, plastic baggies, crack and marijuana pipes, 15 Lortab tablets, which contain hydrocodone and acetaminophen, and a .22-caliber rifle and ammunition.
Additional arrests are expected, and deputies said Simon and Greene will face other charges relating to the items recovered by the search warrant.
They each face up to nine years in prison on the original possession charge, deputies said.
The two are to appear in court at a later date.
Devlin said drug trafficking between New York City and Otsego County is a serious problem in the county.
