Area News Roundup: Bugbee, Woodside have boil-water advisory

Bugbee, Woodside have boil-water advisory

ONEONTA _ A boil-water advisory is in effect for residents in the Bugbee Road and Woodside Avenue area after a water-main break Monday.

Construction crews working on the $1 million Bugbee Road reconstruction project broke the water main earlier Monday.

As a precautionary measure, city officials are advising all residents in that area to boil water used for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth and washing dishes, according to a media release from the city.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for two minutes before use. The advisory is in effect for at least 24 hours, and city officials will issue a notification when it is lifted.

Mayor John Nader said city officials have gone door-to-door in the affected area to warn residents. Nader said about 42 homes in that area are affected.

Residents who need more information may call the water-treatment plant at 433-3470.

There was a hearing on an indictment concerning the Aug. 30 arrest of John L. Bubach, 50, of Roxbury, on a charge of driving while intoxicated. After hearing testimony, Judge Carl Becker reserved a decision and Bubach was released on his own recognizance.

Julie A. Mettler, 42, of Walton, was found to be in violation of probation and sentenced to 2 1/3 to seven years. She was returned to Delaware County jail and will be sent to state prison.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, motorists will encounter alternating lane closures in the northbound direction on Machinery Underpass beneath Interstate 88 in the town of Oneonta. Flag personnel will guide traffic.

Also beginning at 9:30 a.m., motorists will encounter eastbound and westbound left-lane closures on I-88 beneath county Route 48 in the town of Otego, officials said.

Work will be complete by 4 p.m. Thursday, weather permitting.

Officials reminded motorists that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.

ONEONTA _ A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital will be conduct a water-flow test of its fire-sprinkler system at 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to a media release.
