Post Office schedule for Fourth of July

Staff Report

July 03, 2009 04:00 am

According to the Syracuse office of the U.S. Postal Service, all post offices nationwide will be open today, although most will shorten retail lobby hours and close at noon.

Hours for the Main Street post office in Oneonta are 8:30 a.m. to noon, according to a notice at the facility.

Regular mail delivery for this day will be unaffected by the change. Access to post office boxes may be limited in those post offices where an early retail closing curtails all customer activities, officials said.

Revised hours will be posted at each post office. Commercial customers may check with their Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit for today's hours of operation.

In addition, mail should be deposited into blue collection mailboxes by noon for early pickup on this date.

Except for Express Mail, there will be no mail delivery Saturday. Post offices will open, and regular mail delivery will resume Monday.

Officials advised that Social Security checks, usually delivered on the third of each month, were scheduled to be delivered July 2.
