A Worcester man was arrested on felony charges Tuesday for allegedly scamming area residents out of about $3,000 over the last year.
Gary R. Murphy, 58, is on parole for a first-degree scheme to defraud conviction for separate incidents, according to a media release from Otsego deputies.
The latest incidents include Murphy allegedly taking $2,200 from an Oneonta resident in the summer of 2008 for home renovations he failed to perform; procuring $645 in power tools from a Gilbertsville store in December 2008 without paying for them; and having a town of Maryland auto shop perform $138 in repairs on his vehicle last month without paying, according to deputies.
Murphy was charged with first-degree scheme to defraud and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.
The state Division of Parole is also obtaining a parole-violation warrant against Murphy, deputies said.
He faces up to eight years in prison on the new charges, deputies said.
Murphy is being held without bail at Otsego County jail, and is to reappear in Butternuts Town Court on Monday for further proceedings.

COBLESKILL _ Two men suffered knife wounds after a fight on East Main Street in the village of Cobleskill on Tuesday, according to police.
Police received a call from Cobleskill Regional Hospital at 6:03 p.m. reporting that Tyrell Pryor, 24, of Green Island, was stabbed in the abdomen during a brawl with another man, whose name was not released pending completion of the investigation.
That man suffered a small cut to his right hand after a fight on the porch of 600 East Main St. at about 5:30 p.m. He declined medical treatment, village police said.
Pryor was transferred to Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown for surgery. He was discharged Wednesday, according to hospital officials.
No charges have been lodged yet, police said.
Village police are being assisted in the investigation by the Schoharie County District Attorney's Office.
