SUNY official to visit

Staff Report

ONEONTA _ Campus and community members will have a chance to meet with SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher when she visits Oneonta on Monday, college officials said.

An open meeting is set for the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center on campus from 9 to 9:30 a.m., a media release from the State University College at Oneonta said. The meeting is for faculty, staff and members of the community, organizers said.

Zimpher, who started June 1 as chancellor, is touring SUNY campuses this summer.

Her local visit will give SUNY Oneonta a chance to show some of the college's distinctive programs, said Carol Blazina, SUNY Oneonta spokeswoman. Zimpher will tour areas of the main campus Monday morning, including the education, fashion and science departments, Blazina said.

``In the campus community and the Oneonta community, we have a lot to be proud of,'' Blazina said Thursday.

Zimpher will meet privately with SUNY Oneonta President Nancy Kleniewski and other campus representatives, Blazina said. The chancellor will also speak during a luncheon with invited community guests, members of the College Council and College Foundation and other area leaders.

In February, the SUNY Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Zimpher the 12th chancellor of SUNY, the largest comprehensive system of public higher education in the country. She is the first woman to be named chancellor in SUNY's 60-year history.

Zimpher most recently was president of the University of Cincinnati, an urban research university with an enrollment of more than 37,000 students, comprised of 16 colleges, an academic medical and research center and an annual budget of $1 billion.

In a message on the SUNY website, Zimpher said her tour of the system's 64 campuses is the first step toward creation of a SUNY-wide strategic plan, which will be completed next spring.
