{"headline18"/}Aircraft show set for this weekend

GILBERTSVILLE _ The Leatherstocking R.C. Buzzards and the International Miniature Aircraft Association are sponsoring Airshow 2008 at the Polo Grounds in Gilbertsville this weekend.

The airshow featuring remote-control aircraft will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The radio-control aircraft are all giant scale, which mean some have wingspans of more than 6 feet.

There will be models of World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam War aircraft as well as a large variety of civilian models.

A full-size Piper Cub is expected to fly low over the field on Saturday and do a candy drop for children.

Food, beverages and sanitary facilities will be available. Organizers recommend attendees bring chairs and sunscreen.

Admission to the show is $3, with children 12 and younger admitted free. All airshow proceeds will be donated to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. Food and parking proceeds will benefit Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton Junior Honor Society and Gilbertsville-area churches.

Men arrested for assault, robbery

ONEONTA _ An incident involving the taking of a woman's glasses and cell phone at a downtown pizzeria last month has resulted in the arrest of two Oneonta men on robbery and assault charges.

Eric Snow and Lendel R. McLean were arrested earlier this week for their alleged role in a June 22 incident at Sal's Pizzeria during which a 19-year-old woman suffered facial cuts and abrasions, Lt. Dennis Nayor said Thursday.

Snow and McLean, both 23, were charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree assault. They were arraigned Tuesday and ordered held on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond. McLean has since been bailed out, court officials said Thursday.

The men took glasses and a cell phone from the woman and broke them, Nayor said.

The men were acquainted with the woman, but the actual motivation behind the incident was not known, he added.

Snow is to appear in court today for further proceedings, while McClean is to reappear Monday.
