Roadwork set to begin Monday

Staff Report

Work will begin Monday on repaving the River Street Service Road, city officials said.

Weather may impact the scheduling of this project, which officials said is planned in two phases, including recycling existing asphalt and topping that with 2 inches of new top-course asphalt.

There will be minor disruptions to traffic during the project. Work will occur on one lane at a time, and flaggers will direct traffic.

The existing asphalt will be recycled in place. About 4 to 5 inches of the existing asphalt will be milled off, processed and mixed with new stone and asphalt, officials said, and the recycled asphalt will be placed back and rolled, leaving a new surface.

The recycled asphalt will be topped with 2 inches of new asphalt before winter, officials said, and the schedule for topping will be announced later.

The recycling phase should take one day to complete, and traffic will be allowed onto the recycled asphalt as soon as it is rolled into place.

For more details, call the Oneonta engineering department at 432-6465 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
