An 18-year-old Grand Gorge man was arrested for allegedly stabbing a Gilboa man at the Sunoco Country Store in Grand Gorge on Saturday.
Maurice E. Hughes was charged with second-degree assault, Sidney state police Lt. Stephen Farago said Monday.
Farago said the incident occurred at 11:58 p.m. after four men became involved in a dispute in the store.
Hughes and Devon Betancourt, 26, of Grand Gorge, were allegedly harassed by Joe Cooper, 36, of Gilboa, and Bobby Wayne Mosley, no age or address available.
Farago said that when Hughes and Betancourt left the store, they were allegedly jumped by Cooper and Mosley, and Cooper hit Hughes.
Hughes ran to his vehicle. Cooper followed him and allegedly put his hands around Hughes' neck, Farago said.
Hughes reached into his vehicle and got a knife, which he used to stab Cooper in the neck, according to the police report.
Cooper ran from the scene.
Cooper was treated and released at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, Karen Huxtable, hospital spokeswoman said Monday.
Hughes was arraigned in Roxbury Town Court and was released on his own recognizance to reappear Aug. 6.
Farago said the investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be pending.
