Delaware residents face insurance fraud charges

{"headline18"/}Local man, 44, is facing insurance fraud charge

EAST MEREDITH _ An East Meredith resident is being accused of insurance fraud after saying he was disabled and unable to work following an automobile accident, state officials said.

Shannon C. Moseman, 44, a self-employed logger and stone cutter, was arrested Aug. 7, according to a media release. He accepted benefits to cover alleged lost earnings, according to state Insurance Department Frauds Bureau Investigator Mark S. Howard.

Witnesses disputed Moseman's claim that a Jan. 3 accident left him totally disabled, Howard said, and Moseman is also accused of submitting false information on lost-wage claims.

Moseman was arraigned in Delhi Village Court and released on $1,500 bail pending court action. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

State police Troop C assisted the Insurance Department investigation, the release said.

are accused of forgery

WALTON _ Two Walton residents were arrested Aug. 11 for allegedly forging receipts in an attempt to collect additional money as part of an insurance settlement on a March 2007 fire at their home, Delaware deputies said.

Michael A. Kerwin Jr., 32, and Cheryl A. Catuzza, 41, both of 25 High St., were charged with felony insurance fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years, deputies said.

Deputies assisted a senior investigator from the state Insurance Department's fraud bureau in making the arrest.

State Senior Investigator Chris Lehenbauer said the two filed a claim with Broome Cooperative Insurance Company and were paid $37,000 for contents damaged or destroyed, deputies said.

They sought an additional payment of $30,400 for items that were allegedly never purchased, deputies said.

The two were released on their own recognizance to appear in Walton Village Court on Sept. 11.
