Couple gives $50K to fund Delhi library

Staff Report

DELHI _ Community and business leaders Richard and Marilyn Wickham of Delhi have pledged $50,000 to fund new technology at SUNY Delhi's Resnick Library and Learning Center.

The Wickhams said they were inspired by the library's namesakes, Louis and Mildred Resnick, in offering their support.

"We were close friends with the Resnicks for many years. In fact, I served on the College Council with Louis," said Richard Wickham in a media release. "That's why we chose to support Resnick Library when the opportunity was presented to me and my wife, Marilyn."

Wickham said the timing of their gift was important, as 2008 marks the fifth anniversary of the rededication of the Resnick Library and Learning Center. The rededication followed a $1 million renovation of the facility that was funded in part by private gifts, including the Wickhams' first donation to the library.

SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko said in the release, "We are extremely grateful to the Wickhams for their generosity."

Resnick Library Director Pamela Peters is prioritizing a list of equipment, computers and furnishings that will be purchased to help improve student services at the Resnick Library.

The Wickhams also established the Richard and Marilyn Wickham Scholarship in 1994. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student studying automotive technology at SUNY Delhi.

Richard Wickham served on the College Council for 18 years and has been serving on the College Foundation since 1998.
