August 22, 2008 04:00 am A higher education advisory committee for Rep. Michael Arcuri, D-Utica, recently discussed the relationship of colleges and universities to "local economic engines," according to a news release. Arcuri's committee of college presidents, professors and administrators includes Carol Blazina, vice president for community relations at the State University College at Oneonta, Alan Donovan, former SUCO president, Oneonta Mayor John Nader, dean of liberal arts and sciences at the State University College of Technology at Delhi, and Kim Muller, former mayor of Oneonta and current director of grants development at SUCO. The committee met Aug. 6, and Arcuri said in the release that he aimed ``to listen to the experts and learn where local institutions need federal support and how we can work together to educate tomorrow's work force. ``We also discussed how working together our colleges can build synergy within Central New York and the Southern Tier to make our area an alternative energy production center for the country," Arcuri continued.
