Staff Report
August 29, 2008 04:00 am A $2.5 million highway project on Franklin Mountain is nearing completion. The work on state Route 28 began in April and is on schedule to be finished in November, according to Dave Hamburg of the state Department of Transportation. The project by contractor Suit-Kote Corp. consists of rock removal, milling and flattening of side slopes to conform to current DOT standards, road resurfacing and drainage improvements, Hamburg said. The project is being completed as planned and there have been no complications or cost overruns, he added. The repaving component of the project involved the removal of the roadway surface and the emplacement of additional material, which was spread and rolled. After that material cures, the top layer is added, Hamburg said. The major goal of the project is to resurface the road and improve drainage.
