Staff Report
September 09, 2008 04:00 am An off-duty Bassett Healthcare nurse midwife was charged Friday with drunken driving after being involved in an accident, Otsego County deputies and a hospital official said. Susan R. Graham, 48, of Westford, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, driving on the shoulder and driving while using a cell phone, deputies said. A media release from deputies did not indicate her blood-alcohol content level. She was traveling south on state Route 28 at about 6:28 p.m. near Jerry's Place in Cooperstown when the accident occurred, deputies said. Bassett spokeswoman Karen Huxtable said that although Graham was not on call, she was placed on administrative leave with pay, "which gives us time to review the circumstances surrounding the case through the professional review process while also protecting the safety of our patients." Huxtable did not say how long the process would take. Graham is to appear in Otsego Town Court on Sept. 29 to answer the charges, deputies said.
