WEST ONEONTA _ A housing development off East Street in the town of Oneonta was recently approved by the town Planning Board.

The development includes 13-single family homes that would be built in stages, according to Oneonta Town Supervisor Robert Wood.

Developer Michael Ranieri had also at one time considered a 45-unit townhouse complex as a second phase of the housing development, Wood said.

But the townhouse complex has since been scaled back and no official plans are under consideration, Wood said.

Approval of the single-family home phase of the development was reached last Monday.

In other town business, the Oneonta Town Board ordered Sept. 10 that a fire-damaged house at 350 East St. be demolished by the town due to safety concerns, Wood said.

However, the owner of that home has since begun demolishing it on his own, Wood added.
