ONEONTA _ Firefighters extinguished a sport-utility vehicle fire on Maple Street on Thursday that slightly damaged a garage.

A Ford Explorer parked near a garage at 26 Maple St. caught on fire around 3 p.m.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze that consumed the car and prevented its spread to the garage, according to fire officials.

A full-time Oneonta firefighter on the scene experienced some chest pain and was admitted to A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital overnight for observation, Capt. Patrick Pidgeon said Tuesday night.

The name of the firefighter was not released.

About 45 minutes after the fire was reported, Oneonta firefighters responded to a two-car car crash on Southside that injured two people who were transported to Fox, Pidgeon said.

Oneonta state police did not have details on the crash, but troopers said the injuries were not life-threatening.
