DELHI _ The Delaware County eCenter business incubator celebrated its first success story when Delhi Stories Multimedia Production Company LLC relocated to Roxbury.
Delhi Stories was founded in May 2007 by Kent Garrett and d.b. Roderick to pursue the production of documentaries focusing on issues of local, regional and broader interest, as well as the creation of new concepts for television broadcast.
Mary Beth Silano, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce executive director, said Delhi Stories grew over the past year to the point where Garrett and Roderick could confidently establish a permanent location in the village of Roxbury.
Silano said the eCenter offers new businesses discounted rental fees, a professional atmosphere, availability of shared office equipment, including high-speed Internet access, photocopiers and fax machines, and one-price bundled services. It was established in 2007 to aid existing small businesses and attract new ones.
During the past year, Delhi Stories completed production of the half-hour documentary "Mountaintop to Tap," which documents the experience of local and NYC students hiking 200 miles along a path of water from the Catskills to New York City.
Delhi Stories has been working on several projects, including documentaries on the Delaware County Fair, the Binghamton Youth Orchestra, the 100-year history of the city of Oneonta and a documentary entitled "Faith," as well as branching out to other private multimedia projects.
Garrett said in a media release, "The number one advantage of locating our business in the eCenter was the ability to concentrate solely on our business. We weren't distracted by the little things like utilities, office equipment, cleaning services, etc."
Glenn Nealis, Delaware County economic/industrial development director, said, "The overriding purpose of the eCenter is assisting with the development of new small businesses. It's great news that Delhi Stories is fully viable and independent. Hopefully it will serve as a model and incentive for additional businesses."
"This is exactly what the eCenter is all about," Jim Thomson, Catskill Development Foundation chairman, said. "The fact that our first business to leave the eCenter ended up locating in Roxbury shows that this can be a catalyst for the entire county."
Silano said there are four other businesses located at the eCenter, located at 5Â1/2 Main St. in the village of Delhi. She said there are one large and three smaller spaces available for other enterprises.
