Oneonta man, 22, faces burglary, robbery charges

A local man was jailed on burglary and robbery charges after refusing to leave a residence early Friday morning, Oneonta city police said.

Preston G. Wright III, 22, of Oneonta, was charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree robbery, both felonies, and fourth-degree criminal mischief at about 10 a.m. Friday, police said.

Wright is accused of forcing his way into the residence by breaking the front door, then entering, refusing to leave and forcibly taking a cell phone from an occupant, police said in a media release.

Police had responded to the Grove Street home at about 1 a.m. Friday after a report that a man refused to leave the residence. The man had fled by the time officers arrived, the release said, and after speaking to the alleged victim and witnesses, the man was identified as Wright.

After being arrested, Wright was arraigned before Oneonta City Court Judge Walter L. Terry III and sent to Otsego County jail on $6,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond, pending reappearance in court today.

{"headlinelight18"/}Gas-drilling talk in Delhi

DELHI _ The issue of gas drilling will be discussed at 7 p.m. Nov. 10, in the Harder Room of the Delhi United Ministry Church. The event is sponsored by the Delaware County Democratic Committee.

Dr. Ron Bishop, a professor in the chemistry and biochemistry department at the State University College at Oneonta, will discuss the technology of natural-gas development.

Bishop has been part of three Otsego County forums on the subject and has also been a presenter and panelist in forums in the western Finger Lakes region.

"Until people know how the industry works, they are at a real disadvantage in deciding how to respond," Bishop said in a media release.

Cider and doughnuts will be served. For more information, call 287-2198.
