SIDNEY _ A Sidney woman faces a second-degree grand larceny charge for allegedly stealing $50,000 from her Oneonta employer over a two-year period.

Marsha E. Ward, 37, was charged with the felony Tuesday after turning herself into city police.

Ward was an employee of R.J. Millworkers Inc. when she stole $51,986.89 by writing company checks to herself and cashing them, according to the felony complaint on file in Oneonta City Court.

Ward used the money for car payments, mortgage payments, property taxes and the purchase of a golf cart, according to a statement from her on file with court records.

In that statement, Ward confessed to taking money from her employer, the records indicate.

Ward was released on $1,000 bail and is to appear Dec. 2 for further proceedings.

Food drive is Saturday

WALTON _ A "Fill Our Ambulance" food drive is being held at the Walton Big M from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday by Cooperstown Medical Transport.

Lisa Marie Morrison, Cooperstown Medical Transport spokeswoman, said the company wants to help local food banks in the three counties it serves: Delaware, Otsego and Chenango.

"We have set up the first Fill Our Ambulance' food drive in Walton," Morrison said in a media release. "We are asking the customers of the Big M to donate a canned good or nonperishable item, and in return, we will give them a free blood-pressure reading and a free File Of Life."

When the ambulance is full, it will be taken to the United Methodist Church on East Street to deliver the food.

The dates for the food drives in Otsego and Chenango counties have not been set, Morrison said.
