Authorities executed a no-knock search warrant at an Elm Street apartment and arrested two women on heroin possession charges, Oneonta police said Thursday.
At about 6:45 a.m. Thursday, the Oneonta Police Department Special Response Team with help from Otsego County Sheriff’s Office investigators and K-9 unit executed the warrant at apartment No. 3 at 71 Elm St. Police arrested two women without incident after the month-long investigation into illegal narcotics trafficking, Lt. Douglas Brenner said.
Stephanie L. Seagren, 25, and Jania E. Barnett, 24, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, police said.
Subsequent to a search of the apartment, police seized $620 cash and 38 packets of heroin, which had an estimated street value of $720.
The defendants, who are unemployed, were arraigned in Oneonta City Court before Judge Richard McVinney, police said. Seagren was sent to Otsego County jail on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond bail, and Barnett was released on recognizance.
If convicted, the defendants face a maximum sentence of up to nine years in prison, police said.
