SUNY Delhi to receive visit from chancellor

DELHI _ State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher will visit the State University College of Technology at Delhi on Monday for the 48th stop on her summer-long tour of SUNY's 64 colleges and universities.

"We are looking forward to showing Chancellor Zimpher what makes SUNY Delhi distinctive," President Candace S. Vancko said in a media release. "We also want to showcase the educational, public service, and economic development partnerships that we have formed with the local community."

Zimpher, state Sen. John Bonacic, R-Mount Hope, Assemblyman Clifford Crouch, R-Guilford, and Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, chairwoman of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, will tour the $20.5 million Farrell Hall renovation. That construction is expected to transform the building into a modern student and community center, the release said.

"Senator Bonacic and Assemblyman Crouch have been tremendous advocates in Albany for SUNY Delhi," Vancko said.

Simmons Construction of Sidney is the general contractor for the Farrell Hall project.

"We are proud that a local contractor was selected and that this project is providing a direct boost to Delaware County's economy," Vancko said.

Zimpher's visit will also include: a welcome reception with community leaders and college partners; meeting with students; tours of Delhi's academic facilities; and a lunch prepared by Brianne Slocum, American Culinary Federation Northeast Region Student Chef of the Year, under the direction of Professor Thomas Recinella, culinary arts program director and 2003 ACF Chef Educator of the Year.
