Recovery money set for Route 33 repaving

Staff Report

More than $1.3 million in economic recovery funding has been allocated to repave the entire length of county Route 33 in the town of Middlefield, according to a media release.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The money was part of a $69.2 million package of transportation funding announced Friday by Gov. David Paterson. The funds are from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

These investments will provide for essential highway and bridge repairs and other long-term transportation improvements that will create an estimated 1,660 jobs across the state, officials said.

The economic recovery funds that New York will receive for transportation projects must follow the same process required for distributing all federal transportation funds.

Rep. Michael Arcuri said he would ``continue to work with the governor and state elected officials to make sure our region's shovel-ready priority projects receive economic recovery funds."

The money is allocated to projects that are selected by the 13 regional Metropolitan Planning Organizations across the state.

which are comprised of local elected officials, local transit operators and NYSDOT representatives.
